The Brains Trust has gathered…


And we’re all learning a bit more about scripting in Second Life, as the amazing Gnu works with Corwin to make an interactive resource using the open source Builder’s Buddy scripts.  You can check out his tutorial video here.

It’s so great to see this kind of networked learning happening on our Islands. Thanks for sharing Gnu!

Celebrating Eurovision 2008


The jokaydians have gathered for a watching party and celebration of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008.

It’s never hard for us to come up for an excuse for a party… but 80s glam and eurovision trashiness is definitely a good one! We are  feeling serious and happy friendship for you all! ;)

Welcoming Sparks and Flames!

We rented our final plots on jokaydia II this afternoon - and Im very happy to be welcoming a wonderful team to our community! Al Upton and Sapphire Sapphire Ceawlin have taken a large space and will be working together to explore how they might use virtual worlds in K-12 education, and SL for PD activities.

With their wealth of experience from their work in Quest Atlantis, I can hardly wait to see what Al and Sapphire create together! Don’t forget to drop by and say hello! You can visit Sparks and Flames here (SLurl).

Welcome Annabel Recreant!

A few days ago, we welcomed the lovely Annabel Recreant to the Islands of jokaydia! The welcoming party above helped Annabel with some dancing and fun, and she’s already started building a really interesting space on her new plot.

Annabel works in History/humanities education and will be exploring ways to use her space for professional development and networking with the K-12 teachers she is working with. Dont forget to drop by and say hello! ;)

Introduccion a los Mundos Virtuales

One of our wonderful jokaydia residents - marlonj Myers is holding some special events in Second Life this week! Titled ‘Introduccion a los Mundos Virtuales’ or ‘Introduction to Virtual Worlds’, marlonj will be holding the session in two parts - the first at the Universidad Autónoma de Manizales where he is teaching, and the second inworld.

marlonj will be covering a range of topics including the concept of the metaverse, history, examples, Second Life, and virtual worlds education, as well as giving his students and colleagues a great opportunity to visit Second Life and the Islands of jokaydia and explore some of the work marlonj has been doing. Virtual Classroom Project - Final Reflections

The inaugural phase of the Virtual Classroom Project is coming to a close. The official in-world meet-up to officially conclude Leigh Blackall’s (SL: Leroy Goalpost) residency on jokaydia as our first Educator-in-Residence will take place in the next two weeks. Details will be posted as soon as the date is finalized.

Before we conclude, however, Leigh and I will use voicethread to engage in conversations about his work and his experiences as our Educator-in-Residence. I hope that you will find some time to not only listen to Leigh’s thoughts but also contribute your own questions or comments. Please check back regularly as we intend to keep contributing to the voicethread throughout the final two weeks of Leroy’s residency.

So, if you’ve been following the project or attended our inworld meet-up during jokaydia’s April Festival, please add your thoughts. Leroy and I are looking forward to an engaging discussion.
