As part of our meetup tonight to connect with jokaydians currently having fun at NECC, we are going to try to listen in on Konrad’s presentation!

His session is titled ‘Blogging Communities in the Classroom’ and Dean, Jude and Al will be there to help push the sound through to us inworld.

I am so excited! Thanks so much to the jokaydian NECCers for making the effort to share with us! You guys rock!

Meet us at Bar jokaydia click (SLurl) where Konrad and the gang will share with us live from NECC! Time: 11:30pm AEST on Monday 30th June (6:30 AM SLT) - you can check your local times here.

The Alamo in San Antonio

I’ve had some tweets and messages from our intrepid travellers - who are all over in San Antonio attending NECC - the National Educational Computing Conference which is held by ISTE each year. They’ve all arrived safely and seem to be having a good time despite lost phones and macs without admin rights! ;)

And the good news is… you can get a litte dose of NECC by connecting up with HeyJude, slammed, Al and Konrad tonight! Come and meet us at Bar jokaydia for an update on what the group have seen and heard! Did Jude find her fone? Did slammed finally get a beer? Has Al found the NECC dance party yet? Has Konrad tracked down the gang? All will be revealed! ;)

The travellers will be logging into Second Life live from NECC at 11:30pm AEST on Monday 30th June (6:30 AM SLT) which is early in the morning their time - you can check your local times here.

To join us Teleport directly to Bar jokaydia click here. (SLurl) I know it’s short notice, and a late night for us in Aus, but likely to be a hoot! ;)

The Alamo in Second Life

AND! Dont forget to visit NECC in Second Life at ISTE Island. There are heaps of fun activities going on, including social events at Joie’s PBS Teacherline/TCEA space (SLurl) and activities at The ‘virtual’ Alamo!

Howdy Ya’ll!

On June 19 at 6pm SLT (check your local time here), put on your Cowboy hats and boots and join the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) and PBS TeacherLine of Texas, your Texas ambassadors, as we welcome you to NECC in San Antonio, Texas 2008!

We are going to fire up the barbeque, put on some country western for a little line dancing, and get real crazy with a bull-riding contest.

Yeehah!! So, come on down! Click here to teleport to the event.

EdNA in Second Life

We had the pleasure of welcoming EdNA for their ‘edna, me, and the digital world’ online conference to jokaydia this evening for a tour and workshop. Participants from the EdNA’s Online Conference logged into Second Life after a long day, to find out more about what we do on the Islands of jokaydia.

And, true to form the host for the evening - the lovely Kerryj aka Pandora Kurrajong has outdone herself and out-geeked us all, by recording some of the event using her mobile fone and Qik.com! Check out her ‘Geeking Out‘ image below…. streaming the event live from SL with her Nokia N95, while she keeps everyone informed about what’s going on via Twitter… and films machinima. Because a girl’s gotta multitask, right! ;)

You can also get a taste of slammed Aabye aka Dean Groom’s great presentation about the Second Classroom Project in the video below.

Congratulations jokaydians! Thankyou for demonstrating how our community supports and collaborates! Well done to all the presenters, special thanks to Konrad for coming in to film at 5:30am his time(!), big thanks to Sapphire, Annabel and Heyjude for newbie helping and hooray for Pandora!

Happy Nearly Birthday SL - 5 years of Culture

  happybday.jpg

I was happily informed today that jokaydia’s application to be part of the community based 5th Birthday Celebrations for SL was successful, and we have a lovely 1024m plot here on one of the birthday sims, as you can see in the image above.

The SL Birthday events are community driven, and run by volunteers, so this is a great project for us to be involved in. The theme this year is ‘Celebrating the cultural diversity of Second Life’ and I’m really excited that the jokaydia community will be part of it. It will give us a great opportunity to connect and share with others in both the SLedu sector and beyond.

So the plan is to build a display which captures the spirit of jokaydia and gives the community a bit of information about what we do, and how we jokaydians contribute to the amazing culture that is Second Life.

Birthday celebrations start on the 23rd June …. but in the meantime, if you’d like to find out more about the  5th Birthday Celebrations via the following links:

Send a note to Jude..

 Leave a Message for HeyJude

Sadly, the lovely HeyJude Jenns aka Judy O’Connell lost her Dad this week. He lived to the ripe old age of 95, and has left the world a great legacy and an amazing educator, collaborator and friend in Judy. You can read her lovely tribute post on her blog - HeyJude - Learning in an Online World.

We have sent some flowers and a special message to Jude and her family from all of us in the jokaydia community. If you would like to add a personal note for HeyJude, you are welcome to. There is a notecard drop box in Bar jokaydia.

RIP Josip Ilic, 1913 - 2008. Lots of love to Jude and her family.

New Venue: Bar jokaydia!

 Bar jokaydia!

Over the past few days, Azzura and I have been working on a new social space for the islands. I’ve named it Bar jokaydia!

Az and Jo working on Bar jokaydia!

You can view some great images from Konrad here too.

The aim of this space was to create a fun and engaging place to meetup for informal chats and impromtu parties. We will also hold some fireside chats in the space shortly.

Al and jokay @ Bar jokaydia!

Visit Bar jokayida here (SLurl) … and keep an eye out for the launch party happening very soon!!

News from jokaydia Waters!

More great news! Above you can see images of our new Open Space sim, jokaydia Waters. This space has been setup to provide us with some more natural, open areas - and of course space for sailing and paragliding! ;)

Openspace sims are designed for light use and are sometimes referred to as void sims. They are not designed for heavy or residential use, but are fantastic for creating natural open areas. You’ll see our forest and mountain tops develop over the next few days.

Pulsar Project Headquarters

Pulsar Project Build

marlonj Myers has been working really hard over the last week or two to get his Pulsar Project underway, and I’m very excited to see the new Pulsar Project Headquarters starting to take shape! marlonj has created a really interesting building - with a great open space for meetings and discussions with the students that will joining him inworld soon.

Additional to the ‘bricks and mortar’ in Second Life, marlonj has been doing a great job of recording the whole process via the Pulsar Project Blog and also the HiperGalaxia Moodle space, where he is setting up all his course support materials. You’ll find some fantastic stuff there, including a description of how marlonj made his first book, the management documents he’s creating and a great YouTube video which gives an overview of what marlonj is aiming to achieve (although you’ll need your spanish!).

Most exciting, marlonj has completed the course outline for the pilot course he is about to commence, and has provided it in both Spanish and English, which is a fantastic way of sharing it with all our jokaydia residents.

Pulsar Project Course Outline

You can view the course outline here.

Congratulations marlonj! I am so impressed with how quickly you have created the Pulsar Project and this growing collection of resources! Please let us know how we can continue to support you and your students! ;)
