Protests are happening around Australia today against the government’s ridiculous plans for Internet filtering and many jokaydians are out there right now stomping their real life feet in protest against Senator Conroy’s silliness. And at the Islands of jokaydia we’re stomping our virtual feet too!
Go read the facts and make your voice heard! The filters will:
- Not protect our children from harmful or distburbing content – the best way to do this is through digital literacy and continual dialogue with kids about their activities online
- Could slow the interwebz in Australia by up to 80% (Like lag isnt bad enuff already!)
- At best will incorrectly block about 10,000 sites in every million
- Will be compulsory in all homes, even where there are no children…. even tho Jasper and Scooter are both over 18! (in cat years!)
- Threatens our freedom of speech – how far will the filtering go in the future? Who decides what is appropriate?
